Students with disabilities in higher education
Abstract
The study aims to draw attention to the situation of learning and further education of young people with disabilities, especially in view of the fact that the proportion of students with disabilities in higher education in Hungary is low by international comparison. The institutional possibilities and methods of supporting their learning are burdened with numerous obstacles, and the necessary information often does not reach the persons concerned. However, the success of learning for students with disabilities depends to a large extent on the supportive organisational culture of the university, and the accepting and inclusive attitude of lecturers, staff and fellow students. The paper touches on the international and national policy and legislative background describes participation rates, discusses the links between qualifications and employment, and concludes with a brief description of ELTE's practice.
