Internationalisation of cataloguing in cultural institutions with RDA using the example of the German-speaking region
Abstract
Many modern models and standards for cataloguing collections in cultural institutions have an international approach and aim to be applicable across different cultural sectors. A goal that at first glance seems unlikely and has not yet been fully realised. But what are the chances of such a concept being realised? How can the balancing act between internationalisation and local requirements be achieved? What do new technologies offer us and what experiences are currently being made in practice? This article aims to answer these questions and describe them using the example of the implementation of the new Official RDA Toolkit in German-speaking libraries.
