In memory of Iván Horváth (1948–2024)
Abstract
Literary historian Iván Horváth, a pioneer of digital humanities in Hungary, has died. His work in the field of literary databases and online (critical) editions is internationally renowned. The database of Old Hungarian poetry created by him was published in Paris in 1992, together with the accompanying two-volume manual. His first online books (“network books”) were also published in the 1990s. Iván Horváth’s work and research was not only focused on internet publishing, but he was also interested in the long-term preservation of cultural heritage texts. One of his students bids farewell to the colourful personality who established a new school of thought.
