ABSTRACT
The present-day training domain with the greatest enrolment of students in our nation is that of technical sciences. Nevertheless, this field also witnesses one of the highest rates of dropout. In fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) hold great significance in the future labor market, given the constant growth in the demand for technical experts and information technology (IT) professionals. Thus, curtailing student attrition assumes particular significance. This article presents partial findings from a series of studies investigating the influence of engineering students' attitudes and commitment on academic outcomes. Our analysis places particular emphasis on the comparison of the academic achievements of male and female students.
