What do tigers like? (Demands made on scientific information)

Abstract

Continuing the discussion started by G. Rózsa and E. Vajda in previous issues of our journal the author contests the possibility of overcorning the information explosion, caused by the information revolution by limiting the number of primary publications. The objective and subjective preconditions of this limitation are lacking and therefore, forcing it would cause more harm than good. Author rejects the concept of the inflation of information (i.e. the devaluation of correct information by its multiplication and repetition). The load of information services may and should be reduced to a desired degree by other methods (by R & D, mechanization, application of computer technology, improving the co-operation of information services, better division of labour, increased participation of the users).
