Scientometric method for the evaluation of scientists and research teams

Abstract

A method is presented for the scientometric evaluation of individual scientists and research teams based on the period 1976-1980. From the impact factor of the journals publishing their papers and from the predicted "lifetime citations" for a future 15-year period a so-called "institute percentage" is calculated and the results are ranked. In the Biological Research Center of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences the method resulted in a rank which, concerning both individual authors and teams, agreed well with the observed scale of values.
