Checking and standardization of bibliographic data with the mainframe version ofCDS/ISIS

Abstract

During the production of bibliographic records, several types of errors can be committed. Some of them cause only the readibility of a text to be difficult but others can even prevent the retrieval of a bibliographic record. A part of the recording and input errors can only be eliminated by human efforts like proof reading, but others can be detected and/or corrected automatically using suitable computer programs. The author discusses this latter type of error checking illustrated by the checking routines of the CDS/ISIS program system.
