Abstract

The Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences has one of the major scientific document collections of the country. It contains 960 thousand books, 273 thousand volumes of periodicals, 557 thousand manuscripts, and 21 thousand microfiches. The history of the Library since 1826 is presented on the occasion of the occupation of the new library building with an area of 6054 m2, the double of its previous space. In this enlarged space the library intends to function in an improved manner, to serve the cause of science in this country by traditional and advanced methods.
