Libraries and information systems in Sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract

This article presents the existing srtuation of libraries and information systems ín Sub-Saharan Africa, and discusses some of the factors which have impeded the development of national information systems. It is concluded that libraries and information systems in Sub-Saharan Africa are so poor, both qualitstively and quantitatively, that much remains to be done to enhance their status in order to bring them to the standards of national information systems elsewhere.
