A few hours in GopherSpace: the case of dictionaries
Abstract
In today's increasingly networked environment, language related tools are being given particular attention. Therefore, the internet is today's natural media for carrying various dictionaries and glossaries, most of which can be accessed through Gophers. The author describes a variety of dictionaries containing abbreviations and acronyms, and smiley dictionaries containing character strings which portray feelings via simple pictograms. Gophers can also be used to access glossaries covering a number of broader fields, though access to some of these is only available to limited numbers of users.
