Archiving electronic journals from the serials information provider's perspective

Abstract

Historical examples prove that archiving functions are indispensable for the advance of science. The appearance of electronic journals presents new challenges: in archiving this document type hardware and software play significant roles. Periodicals subscription agencies and document supplier services acting as intermediaries between publishers and libraries will face new challenges: is it possible that they will bee (also) charged with archiving functions? EBSCO's practice points to-ward this direction.
