Library and information services in Thailand
Abstract
The 1999 IFLA conference was held in Bangkok, Thailand. On this occasion, according to traditions, the IFLA Journal (1999, No. 3) published a comprehensive review of library matters in Thailand. The present author, following a brief social and economic background, describes the National Library, school libraries, special libraries, public libraries and university libraries of the country. The activities of the Thai Library Association, the main content and issues of the national infonnation policy, computer networks and major networking tasks are discussed. In the framework of principal infonnation technology projects, the importance of the integrated library systems is pointed out. Further development can be expected from library cooperation and extended use of advanced information technology methods.
