Abstract

User training has a distinct role in higher education institutions by making library and ínformation science education a compulsory part of university curricula. This way future graduates can be introduced to the science and techniques of information search by professional librarians of the university. The compulsory information/library training for students of the Medical and Health Center has been going on for eight years in the Kenézy Library of the Debrecen University. It is considered as a unique initiative in Hungary. The credit system to be introduced in the Debrecen University from the 2002/2003 academic year on is expected to invoke significant changes in the curriculum of this subject.
