Abstract

The II. Rákóczi Ferenc County Library in Miskolc launched a new online service in 2005. The digital library was created as a result of the cooperation of the county library and the Jána Bocatia Library in Kosice, Slovakia. The project was supported by the Hungarian National Cultural Funds and out of private funding. The idea of the Digital Library of Borsod was based on the fact that the historical counties of Borsod, Abaúj and Zemplén (united into one county in 1950) once were part of a larger geographical and cultural unit, spreading over some part of today's Slovakia. The selection of the documents for digitisation was done jointly with the librarians of Kosice. The digitisation work was completed by GDL General Document Line Co. The material first was published on CD-ROM which served as the basis for the web-based digital library, carried out by the county library staff and available via the library's homepage. In addition to the works digitised by the county library, the Digital Library of Borsod also serves as a gateway to other local digital collections, online periodicals and further e-resources of the county. The service can be accessed via the library's homepage at http://www.rfmlib.hu/digitkonyvtar/.
