Internet for Everyone. User training in the Central Library of the Budapest Szabó Ervin Library (FSZEK), Hungary
Abstract
The Central Library of FSZEK has started a comprehensive user training project, supported alsó by a grant. The objectives are to help users in the orientation in library services, to create a firm base for and to increase their knowledge of information science and technology, and to assure positive motivation for computer appiication. The target groups of the training include people lacking former information education, retired persons and handicapped library users. The tutor librarians have considered during preparatory activities (like the installation of training rooms, the development of curricula) the questionnaires filled up by would-be trainees. The training modules have been de-veloped according to the existing knowledge levels of future trainees. The types of the training units of courses, the use of the Internet, information re-trieval, and the use of libraries, help participants in acquiring knowledge for self-sufficient information searching, and for the firm applications of their information science and technology knowledge.
