The Bibliographic Transition programme in France – adoption of RDA in France
Abstract
As reported in an earlier study, in November 2014 two bibliographic agencies, the National Library (Bibliothèque nationale de France, BnF) and the Bibliographic Agency of Higher Education (Agence bibliographique de l’enseignement supérieur, ABES) issued a joint statement in which they took an official stand for the adoption of the cataloguing rules entitled Resource Description and Access (RDA) in France. In another joint statement, with the directors of regional centres of extension training (Association des directeurs de CRFCB) they outlined the expected stages of the Bibliographic Transition programme. This document envisages a slow (progressive) and deliberate schedule. The article describes in detail the preparations, organizational background and progress so far of the transition with the aim to provide some ideas for RDA implementation in Hungary.
