Abstract

The development of Resource Description and Access (RDA) as a new international standard for description is related to major library-related, technological and standardisation initiatives of recent years in three fields: RDA has elaborated detailed rules based on FRBR-models; the standard’s elements have been greatly influenced by the standards and techniques of the semantic web gaining ground; and finally, as the concepts and ideas of RDA have been developing, they catalysed developments in the data element sets of MARC21. The current article is the second of a three-part series, describing in detail the relationships between RDA’s vocabularies and the element sets of the semantic web, its formats and technology. (The first part – RDA and international library models and element sets = Tudományos és Műszaki Tájékoztatás, 64, 4. (2017) 168-188. – dealt with the relationship between FRBR- and FRAD-models and the RDA; while the third part will cover the influence of RDA on MARC21.)
