Together or apart? Collaboration opportunities for academic archives and libraries

Abstract

In a resolution dated January 16, 2017, the Senate of the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) merged the University Library and the University Archives into one organizational unit. The reasons for this measure were: the unified management of document assets, better use of resources in digitization, exploration and exploitation of potential synergies in the professional fields concerned. The justification for the Senate’s decision was in line with the strategic objective of the University Library Service of ELTE, that the public collection functions should be extended, and the museum collections held at ELTE should implement professional and organizational cooperation.
