„To become the number one, authentic distributor of cultural heritage”. State of the art of implementing the Public Collection Digitization Strategy in the library sector

Abstract
Within the framework of the Digital Nation Development Programme, the Hungarian Ministry of Human Resources (EMMI) has formulated the Public Collection Digitization Strategy (KDS) for the period 2017–2025. The aggregator for the library sector became the National Széchényi Library, which started implementing the strategy in 2019. Improvements have been made in three areas: services, collections and aggregation. As regards service development, the Könyvtárak.hu portal (www.konyvtarak.hu), operating as an information hub for public libraries, was created to increase the social embedding of libraries. Collection development included the creation of a thematic web archive related to the Rákóczi Memorial Year (https://rakoczi2019.webarchivum.oszk.hu/). As part of aggregation development, EMMI invited a tender to support digitization by city libraries with county-level responsibilities, in line with KDS. In addition to making digital recordings, the 11 applicants created freely accessible online thematic content services to support education. Three of these projects are presented in the article.
