A standard on e-learning metadata: Learning Object Metadata

Abstract

Metadata related to e-learning make up a system of rules relating to contents, authoring software and learning management systems (LMS). They consist of rules which determine how training can be created and provided on various platforms, in a faultless manner. It is the objective of these standards to provide pre-defined, fixed structures and communication protocols for e-learning objects, thus facilitating the interoperability of applications. They ensure guidance in the field of communication for planning, developing and providing learning objects.
