RDA and international library models and element sets. Part 1
Abstract
The devepment of Resource Description and Access (RDA) as a new standard for description is closely related to the main library-related, technological and standardization efforts of recent years in three areas: RDA has elaborated a detailed system of rules based on FRBR-models; the spread of semantic web standards and techniques over the years has also had also a significant influence on the development of the standard’s elements; and finally, the development of RDA concepts has also acted as a catalyst on the development of the set of MARC21 data elements. This is the first article in a three-part series: it sets out the relationships of FRBR- and FRAD-models with RDA in detail. The second part will deal with the relationship between RDA vocabularies and the semantic web, while the third part will be about the impact of RDA upon MARC21.
