Editing Wikipedia by edit-a-thons
Competence and skills development in higher education
Abstract
In this study, the author provides an insight into the issues and possibilities of using edit-a-thons on the example of the annual "Shakespeare Editing Marathon" for students of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University. It describes specific ways of using them in the training of translators and interpreters, as well as topic- or site-specific edit-a-thons. (Editing is an event where editors from online communities, such as Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap and LocalWiki, edit and improve entries on a particular topic or other type of content.)
