Comparative analysis of the national libraries' and OSZK MARC21 holdings based on some data fields

Abstract

With Péter Király's QR catalogue analizer we compare the MARC21 holdings of the most significant national libraries were compared with the holdings of the OSZK. In this work, we have analysed the data elements for the content of the record headers (06, 07 and 17) and the coded physical features (007). Such large-scale comparative analyses have not been possible until now due to the lack of appropriate IT tools. The use of these content data fields for searching is poorly handled in today's library systems. Our aim is to help improve this situation.
