Abstract

The role of the library in supporting learning is indisputable, but it means more than just providing traditional services. Today, this role is increasingly seen as an important responsibility for which libraries and librarians must be prepared. The fourth industrial revolution is changing the labour market environment, and the skills and competences required are changing as well. Libraries, like educational institutions, must adapt to the new needs. In this paper, we look at how libraries can respond to contemporary challenges, from the perspective of learning environments. Reviewing the characteristics and current features of the elements of learning environment, we can get an overall picture about the conditions for creating an appropriate and authentic learning environment.
