The role of sectoral information systems in the State System of Scientific and Technical Information of the Soviet Union

Abstract

The article is based ort the paper delivered at an All-Union meeting on the same subject held on 19 April 1978. It describes the main development trends of the sectoral information centres being components of the State System of Scientific and Technical Information, the information services provided by these information centres, their role in the establishment of automated sectoral systems, their activities in the field of the dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge and experience, their participation in the Information System for Science and Technology of the socialist countries and their leading role in the subsystems of the System. The article is also reporting on questions related to the qualification of information personnel and the principles of cost recovery to be applied to the information services provided by sectoral information systems.
