Abstract

This paper deals with the issues of preserving digital culture, including web content. Based on the experiences of the National Széchényi Library’s (NSzL) web archive over the past six years, the author describes the decisions that need to be made when creating a collection, why it is important to collect „born digital” documents, and what are the tasks of various organizations and institutions, especially public collections, in this area. The second half of the paper describes the current practice of web archiving at NSzL and finally covers possible future tasks. The article is an edited version of a presentation given at the conference „Binoculars on history” of the Vörösmarty Mihály Library in Székesfehérvár on 24 April, 2023.
