Digital preservation
Abstract
As a starting point, it is worth briefly reviewing how digitisation has transformed the world of documents collected and managed by public collections, radically changing the media and, with it, the consumption of information. Although the consequences of the digitisation of information can be experienced in our everyday lives, from the perspective of public collections and libraries it is of paramount importance to identify and manage these changes. The article outlines the challenges that the digital world and its phenomena pose to memory institutions. Afterwards, it presents initiatives and projects that have already been launched in various educational and academic institutions abroad, as well as in national libraries. In conclusion, it outlines the responses of public collections, with special regard to the Hungarian National Széchényi Library (OSZK).
