Abstract

The review presents the book Media Education Handbook for Preschool Teachers (2025). The book primarily provides guidance on how to consciously integrate the use of digital devices and screen content into everyday kindergarten education in an age-appropriate manner. It has a solid theoretical background and offers practical guidance for educators.

The review highlights that with the rise of the digital world, the role of preschool teachers is also changing: instead of prohibition, conscious mediation, shared content interpretation, and the importance of partnership with parents are increasingly coming to the fore.

It mentions as positive aspects the book's clear, teacher-friendly structure, the clear and understandable explanation of concepts, and the methodological suggestions that help children process their media experiences.

Among the critical comments is that, due to the rapid development of technology, examples tied to specific devices and platforms may become outdated over time. Another comment is that the book pays little attention to social differences in access to digital devices. As there can be significant differences between families in this regard, these differences represent different experiences and challenges in preschool practice, and a more conscious approach to these would make the book's perspective even more complete.

Overall, the review assesses the book as a gap-filling, professionally reliable handbook that can be directly applied in everyday pedagogical work and provides real support to preschool teachers in adapting to the challenges of the digital world.
